Over this past weekend, myself and Ben Mammina released our second book on the Civil War, Civil War Tours of the LowCountry. This release party was held at Murphy's Law, an Irish Pub, in Savannah. It was attended by many of our closest friends and visitors who stumbled on to it. Football was in the background, as people sipped on their pints and peered into their books.
Chef Jimmy, did a wonderful job with the food; mini Reubens, cottage pie, roast beef, multiple cheeses and various fruits. Everyone raved about the spread.
As the night grew longer, traditional Irish music was pumping throughout the speakers, but particular ballad caught the attention of me and my dear friend Michael McChesney. It was the Bonnie Blue Flag, a Southern Civil War song that celebrated the secession of 11 Southern states in 1860 and 1861. We just smiled and toasted, as no one else in the Pub realized that a Civil War song was sounding off the walls at our Civil War book signing. It was not scripted, it was a very special moment. The songs roots are Irish.
